Hospitals Can’t Go On Like This

As cases of COVID-19 continue to surge across the country, many hospitals are running short of staff. As of last week, a total of 1,109 hospitals said they expect to face a staffing shortage, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. That represents 22% of all U.S. hospitals and is up from 19% the week of Nov. 4. In eight states, the situation is even more severe. More than 35% of hospitals in Arkansas, Missouri, North Dakota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin expect a staffing shortage as soon as this week.
