by Newport News-Times
A Newport, Ore., doctor has filed a lawsuit, seeking nearly $20 million, that alleges Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital management discriminated against him due to his status as a transgender man and his promotion of transgender health services at the Newport medical facility. The 29-page lawsuit was filed against the hospital and its parent Samaritan Health Services by Dr. Gavin Shumate, an obstetrician-gynecologist presently in private practice. The suit seeks not less than $10 million in non-economic damages and up to $9.7 million in economic damages.
