The Joint Commission Publishes Changes to the Re-privileging/Reappointment Time Frame
by The Joint Commission
The Joint Commission has revised its requirements regarding licensed practitioner evaluation time frames. Effectively immediately, The Joint Commission states that:
"The time frame for evaluation has changed from a period not to exceed two years to a period not to exceed three years, unless law and regulation require a shorter period. This change was made to better align with the standard practice of evaluating licensed practitioners every three years."
The revision is applicable to ambulatory care organizations, behavioral health care and human services organizations, critical access hospitals, hospitals, nursing care centers, and office-based surgery practices accredited by The Joint Commission.
More details regarding this update can be found in the organization's Prepublication Standards and Standards FAQs sections of its website.
