American Medical Association (09/18/20) Robeznieks, Andis
The American Medical Association (AMA) has thrown its support behind the Telehealth Modernization Act of 2020, otherwise known as S. 4375, which would permanently remove many of the regulatory restrictions on telehealth that were temporarily lifted at the start of the pandemic. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) is the sponsor of the bill, which would also give the Secretary of Health and Human Services the authority to help patients access telehealth from physical therapists, speech pathologists, and other health professionals. In addition, it would permit Medicare hospice and home dialysis patients to start receiving care via a telehealth appointment without an initial in-person visit.
