Each year, NAMSS honors members and industry leaders with several annual NAMSS Awards. NAMSS members and other leaders spend all year working to implement change in their environments, and we strive to ensure their work is recognized on a national level.
Here, we recognize the awardees who were honored by the NAMSS Hall of Fame and received the NAMSS Fellow Designation, NAMSS Golden Key Award, Charlotte Cochrane Scholarship, Joan Covell Carpenter Award, NAMSS Leadership Award, and the ICON Award. Congratulations to the 2020 recipients!

The NAMSS Fellow Designation signifies knowledge, service to the organization, and advancement of the profession.
2020 Fellows
Jenny Jackson, EdD, MBA, CPMSM, CPCS, FMSP

Tiffany Long, CPCS, CPMSM, FMSP
"I am so honored and humbled to achieve the FMSP designation. So many of the people I share this designation with have been my mentors throughout my career. I have looked up to them and turned to them for guidance on countless occasions. I look forward to following in their footsteps in exemplifying the NAMSS Fellow Designation by sharing knowledge, continuing to serve our organization and fellow MSPs, and do my part in advancing our profession," Long says.
NAMSS Golden Key Award
The NAMSS Golden Key Award is bestowed upon a NAMSS certificant who demonstrates a strong commitment to professional growth as well as enthusiastic support of the NAMSS certification programs. Recipients exemplify the NAMSS Certificants’ Code of Ethics and demonstrate their dedication to certification by sharing knowledge, fostering education opportunities, and encouraging personal and professional growth through continued self-improvement and applying current advancements in the profession.
2020 Recipient
Barbara Ortolf, MHA, CPA, CPMSM, CPCS
"I cannot say how honored and grateful I was to receive the award. I came late to the profession 20 years ago, having been a hospital finance manager before that. NAMSS has been incredibly valuable to me in my development and the development of my staff, in education, certification, and collegiality and idea exchange. Many thanks for the nomination, and I’m humbled and thankful for the amazing professionals who have built NAMSS to be the organization we know today," Ortolf says.
Charlotte Cochrane Scholarship Award
The Charlotte Cochrane Scholarship Award was established in 1988, in honor of Charlotte Cochrane, founder and past president of NAMSS and former Overview editor. This award provides financial assistance to an active member of NAMSS currently employed in the profession of medical staff or provider credentialing services or holds the NAMSS CPCS or CPMSM and is currently seeking employment in the same.
2020 Recipient
Cassandra Alexander, CPCS, CPMSM
"I am very grateful for this award, which is an excellent motivator to continue my college education journey. I am also very appreciative of the NAMSS Education Committee for the time and effort put in to this yearly award process," Alexander says. "In 2015, I made the best decision to restart my education journey and started at a local community college. As an adult learner, mother, and wife, I was met with many challenges trying to manage school-work and a career."
"However, since working as an MSP for eight-years, I believe it has prepared me to be resilient and help overcome these insecurities. The professional environment for MSPs is constantly changing, we are always ready to adapt, and I believe this strength carried over to my studies and encourages me every day to never stop learning," Alexander continues. "My plan at this stage is to complete my BBA in healthcare administration and look further into a graduate program. I hope to serve in a NAMSS position in the future, where I might have the ability to help working moms and under-represented social groups pursue their education goals. My educational pursuits would not be possible without generous support from scholarship sponsors like NAMSS."
Joan Covell-Carpenter Award
The Joan Covell-Carpenter Award, created in honor of Joan Covell-Carpenter, a founder of NAMSS, is presented annually for an article written by a member and published in Synergy.
2020 Recipient
Maureen Kozlowski, CPCS, CPMSM
"Thank you to the NAMSS Board for recognizing the article I submitted to Synergy titled “Telemedicine: A Challenge With Great Rewards” with the Joan Covell-Carpenter Award! It seems “challenge” is a fitting word for MSPs as we encounter them every day, but knowing we have an organization like NAMSS behind us, definitely makes it easier!" Kozlowski says.
