Louisiana Hospital's Board Ousted

In Louisiana, the Ascension Parish Council recently voted to replace the entire board of Prevost Memorial Hospital in Donaldsonville after raising concerns about its activities over the past decade. Board members had faced pressure in recent months to provide details on the hospital's finances and vision. The facility currently has a $28 million surplus, and activists lobbied for a new hospital building. Prevost Memorial's executive leadership championed a physician office expansion, but the Ascension Parish Council reportedly blocked the move. Among the issues under scrutiny is the hospital's 2020 purchase of a medical clinic building for $900,000, which was bought from two of its board members. Amid a search for a permanent board, five new board members have been appointed to temporarily lead the hospital.
