June Was a Good Month for Healthcare Hiring, but the Staffing Crisis Can Only Be Solved by Tech, VBC

According to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, America's economy added 372,000 jobs in June. Healthcare employment rose by 57,000 during the month, including 28,000 new hires in ambulatory health care services and 21,000 in hospitals. Nursing and residential care facilities added roughly 8,000 jobs. This marked the five month in a row of employment increases for hospitals and senior care. However, healthcare employment levels remains substantially below what they need to be, reports Matt Wolf, national healthcare business valuation director at consultancy firm RSM US. This is particularly true for the nursing care facility labor force, with employment still 12 percent lower than it was pre-pandemic. Wolf observes that hospitals are in a "better" spot than nursing care only because of supplemental contract labor, the use of which is too expensive to be sustainable.
