How the Problem of Hiring Healthcare Staff Has Become a Fertile Ground for Startups

The ongoing healthcare crisis has put undue pressure on European hospitals and has resulted in a staffing boom in some markets. Some healthcare professionals are dealing with bad terms and compensation because of the many hiring agencies offering medical staff on short-term contracts. The continent has become ripe for startups to "platformize" this problem, as evidenced by such companies as Clipboard Health and Patchwork Health. Emerging from Sweden is Bemlo, a primarily Nordics-based marketplace for short-term staffing of doctors and nurses. Co-founder Benjamin Waye said in a recent statement: "Healthcare professionals have long sought a transparent solution for sharing their own work experience at different employers with peers. Reviews and transparency haven't been widely available in this space until now. Healthcare professionals should be able to focus on patients and not have to worry about working conditions." Bemlo operates in Sweden, Norway, and the U.K. and is used by healthcare professionals and healthcare staffing agencies.
