Hospital Where 'Jeopardy!' Champ Brayden Smith Died Sued for Wrongful Death
by New York Post
Deborah and Scott Smith, the parents of "Jeopardy!" champion Brayden Smith, have sued a Las Vegas-area hospital where their son died after abdominal surgery in 2021. The Smiths have accused its staff of negligent medical malpractice. Their legal team names the defendants as St. Rose Dominican Hospital-Siena Campus in Henderson, Nev.; hospital corporation Dignity Health; and several doctors and nurses. "Brayden suffered before he died because the hospital, its nurses, and the home health nurse failed to teach and take care of this young man with a new ostomy," Robert Murdock, one of the parents' lawyers, wrote in a statement. On Jan. 15, 2021, the 2020 UNLV graduate underwent colon removal surgery after suffering from ulcerative colitis. "His death was preordained by the misconduct of doctors and nurses," according to the lawsuit. “This is a very sad case about a young man whose death was preventable.” A hospital spokesperson said the lawsuit was under review and administrators could not comment on pending litigation.
