Florida Hired Doctor to Give COVID-19 Results, Despite Probation

Florida officials contracted with a doctor to give coronavirus test results to more than 100,000 residents, even though he had been on probation by the state's medical board for the past 10 years. Pediatrician Dr. Eric Pantaleon in late May was fired amid mounting complaints that thousands of coronavirus test results were delayed. Pantaleon and his firm, Medical Associates Network, were hired by the Sunshine State to oversee a dozen test sites. According to the Florida Department of Health records, Pantaleon was put on probation in 2010 by Florida's board of medicine after he treated multiple patients improperly for HIV. In addition, his name appeared on a list of Florida physicians who had bought big amounts of opioids last year, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration records show.
