Doctors Forgo Mental Health Care During Pandemic Over Concerns About Licensing, Stigma

The COVID-19 crisis is threatening the emotional well-being of thousands of healthcare providers. However, fear of losing their peers' respect, future job opportunities, and even their livelihood altogether has kept many from seeking the professional help they need. Nationwide, roughly 50% of doctors report feeling anxious because of pandemic-related concerns, a recent Physicians Foundation study determined. Almost 60% report experiencing burnout, up from 40% just two years ago. However, only 13% have sought treatment to address COVID-related mental health concerns. Among emergency physicians, nearly half report not feeling comfortable seeking mental health treatment.
