Data Breach Leads to Class Action Lawsuits Against Hospital
As of late July, California’s Southern District was considering four class-action lawsuits against Scripps Health in response to a data breach that occurred earlier this spring. The breach involved the personal and medical data of more than 147,000 patients being compromised. The various lawsuits allege that the massive, month-long ransomware attack in April-May was "preventable" and resulted from Scripps’ negligent and/or careless failure to properly safeguard and secure the data of patients, doctors, and other staff members.
