Bill Would Require Colorado Hospital Systems to Sue Patients Under Own Name

There’s a renewed effort on the part of Colorado's Attorney General and some elected officials to change the way Colorado hospital systems sue patients for unpaid medical bills. This follows a probe by the Colorado Sun and 9NEWS that exposed some of the billing practices of the biggest provider of care in the state. The Colorado AG is looking to compel hospital systems to use their own name as the plaintiff should they opt to sue patients. House Bill 1380 is scheduled to go before the Colorado House Judiciary Committee on April 10. "If you have nothing to hide, then why wouldn't you be more transparent?" asks Sen. Lisa Cutter (D-Jefferson County).
