Apple Reportedly Wants to Run Its Own Health Care Clinics
Some Apple Inc. initiatives aimed at disrupting the healthcare sector have struggled to gain traction. For instance, the tech giant has envisioned offering its own primary care medical service with Apple-employed doctors at Apple clinics. To test that idea, the company took over clinics that catered to its employees and built a team with clinicians, engineers, and others. But the effort quickly stalled, and Apple has largely shifted the focus of its health unit to selling devices, specifically the Apple Watch. If the company could successfully use the immense amount of health data generated by the Apple Watch and other devices to improve primary care, it could sell the system to other health care groups and even entire countries.
