A Message From Your Editor
By Lisa Goodwin, MBA, CPCS, CPMSM
As your NAMSS volunteer editor, I hope you enjoy the new electronic format of Synergy. At the beginning of this year, Synergy became part of Gateway, with its content still available only to members. Readers who visit Gateway will find all Synergy content demarcated with a unique icon. With this new format, you will still find many features you have come to expect from previous Synergy issues, such as industry updates, tips of the trade, legal corner, and committee updates.
It is an honor to be serving this year as your 2023 President-elect. I feel optimistic about the year ahead, and I hope you do too. When I joined the Board as a Director at Large in 2019, volunteering with NAMSS looked a lot different. So much has changed; we could have never imagined how the next few years would unfold. MSPs are a resilient group. We buckled down and did what we were asked to do just to keep providers in our facilities seeing patients. I am truly grateful for the way we were able to connect through NAMSS and support each other.
While I was developing this column, I looked back at the January/February 2019 Synergy issue. I found an industry feature written by Monica Martin, MA, CPCS titled “Taking the Leap, Transitioning to Leadership in Medical Staff Services”. In this article Monica talks about taking the leap from Credentialing Specialist to a Director role. The advice she offered is even more important today. We as MSPs need to continue to elevate our profession. Being a leader does not mean you have to have a lofty title or position of authority; those things are given. I want to encourage you to find the leader within yourself.
Last year, I was given the opportunity to attend a course called “Leadership’s Calling”. Henry Givray, the founder of Leadership’s Calling, says this, “The Core Essence of Leadership is profoundly uncomplicated involving three critical actions: Imagining a better future, getting others to join in the journey, and then getting there.”
I am looking forward to the journey and getting there together. If you have ideas for articles you would like to see in Synergy this year, please reach out. I look forward to hearing from you.
