Volunteering for CCN Exam Development Activities
By NAMSS Staff
If you’re certified and a subject matter expert, we need your help and expertise! The Certification Commission of NAMSS (CCN) is responsible for the CPCS® and CPMSM® certification programs, including exam content and administration. If you ever wanted to know more about the certification exam process, the best way to learn is by participating first-hand in exam development activities. The CCN coordinates exam development activities with certified subject matter experts who are in good standing with NAMSS and who are not currently involved in teaching or working on the NAMSS Education Committee. The CCN is looking for a diverse panel of experts from all the accrediting bodies who represent different regions of the country and who come from a variety of experience levels. The more diverse the panel, the more our certification exams will be representative of the larger medical services profession. This is where we need your help!
Applications are open to join the CCN Exam Development Team to contribute to specific group activities like those outlined below.
- Job task analysis: Defines the performance domains outlining competent practice and then breaks down those domains into job responsibilities.
- Item writing: Uses performance domains/job responsibilities defined by the job task analysis to develop questions for the exams using a specific format that undergo review by subject matter experts.
- Exam assembly: Reviews exam questions for both CPCS and CPMSM exams to ensure the appropriate number of items from each domain is included and that there is a balance across the accrediting body standards.
- Cut score/standard setting: Works with Meazure Learning’s testing experts to evaluate all exam questions based on its level of difficulty. Following this review, testing experts will use statistical data to determine the minimum passing score for each exam form.
As a bonus, the volunteer CCN Exam Development Team members do not need to retake the exam. You’ve already passed it and have demonstrated your expertise. No need to do it again! Volunteers earn NAMSS-approved continuing education (CE) credits. The number of hours vary based on the activity.
If any of these activities sound like something you’d like to be involved in, please fill out the volunteer application. You may also contact a CCN Board Member via the NAMSS website under “volunteer leaders” or contact a member of the exam development team at namssccntestdev@gmail.com.
