Utah Cosmetic Surgeon Sued for Medical Malpractice May Lose License as New Allegations Surface

Christopher Kelly, a Utah cosmetic surgeon who has been sued by five of his former patients for medical malpractice, is now at risk of losing his license. That is the recommendation of the Utah Division of Professional Licensing following an investigation that uncovered new allegations against the doctor. Kelly has been charged with seven counts for failing to support continuity of care for his patients, five counts of unprofessional conduct for failing to maintain proper medical records, and one count for prescribing opioids without checking the state’s Controlled Substances Database. As part of its complaint, the agency has requested that Kelly's license be revoked for at least five years. The state Medical Licensing Board is set to hear evidence in the case and will likely make a final determination in late March. Mark Steinagel, head of Utah's licensing division, says most licensees end up entering a settlement with the state prior to a case goes to a hearing.
