Spring Happenings: Strategic Partnerships and Enhanced Recognition for NAMSS
By Lisa Goodwin, MBA, CPCS, CPMSM
Hello fellow MSPs. I hope you are enjoying spring and staying safe. Spring here in north Idaho really is an awakening. I love planting a garden and adding color to flowerpots that have been covered and hibernating over the long winter. Spring also signals the start of camping season! Yay!
As we begin working on our 2024–2028 strategic goals, the board has prioritized advocating on NAMSS’s behalf with state and federal government, accreditation constituents, and other strategic partners. The board continues to expand on the list of strategic partners and look for ways to enhance community awareness of NAMSS and the work of MSPs. Here is what we have been up to so far:
In March, I met with Dr. Graham McMahon, the president and CEO of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Dr. McMahon is very interested in how the ACCME and NAMSS can partner on future projects. We are scheduling a webinar this year in which Dr. McMahon will share information on upcoming ACCME changes. As a frontline MSP, I am excited to find ways to make reporting and collecting CMEs easier not just for the physicians but for us as well.
In April, NAMSS Immediate Past President Michelle Stultz, RN, CPMSM, CPCS, FMSP, and I hosted an exhibitor booth at the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) conference in Orlando, Florida. This was a first for NAMSS hosting a booth at a national conference, and we received a lot of interest. It was a great opportunity for us to share with practice administrators and CMOs credentialing and enrollment best practices along with the many resources available to NAMSS members.
Also in April, NAMSS President-Elect Karen Claxton, MBA, CPCS, CPMSM, FMSP, hosted a booth at the Ambulatory Surgical Center Association (ASCA) conference, also in Orlando, Florida. She was joined by Nyleen Flores, chair of the NAMSS SME Subcommittee. Nyleen was a presenter at the conference and was happy to join Karen and share information about NAMSS with conference attendees.
April was a busy month for the officers and concluded with Michelle and me attending the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) meeting in Chicago. Attendance at the ABPN meeting was by invitation only, and we were honored to be asked. Their board asked us to share information about NAMSS and the benefits of being a member. They also had questions related to what concerns we have as MSPs and how their association can make the credentialing process easier.
Earlier this year, NAMSS was contacted by the American Telehealth Association (ATA) and asked to give a presentation at their conference in Phoenix in May. This was a great opportunity for us to continue enhancing the relationship that started when NAMSS partnered with the ATA on the Credentialing by Proxy Guidebook. I presented on Credentialing by Proxy (CBP) and was pleasantly surprised to be greeted after the presentation by MSPs working with telemedicine groups that had never heard of CBP. This was a wonderful opportunity to encourage this group to become NAMSS members.
I am encouraged by the recognition NAMSS is receiving from groups like the ACCME, AMA, ATA, and ABPN. We have had many amazing opportunities so far this year reaching new groups and strengthening relationships with existing partners. Such an exciting time to be a NAMSS member!
And speaking of an exciting time, I’m looking forward to welcoming you to Denver on Sept. 29 as we kick off the 48th Educational Conference and Exhibition. There will be so much learning and growing as we engage in interactive sessions, meet inspiring presenters, catch up with our favorite vendors, and create lifelong connections. I hope you will join me! Register now!
