The Iowa Board of Medicine has issued a warning to Dr. Raymond M. Tamburro, a physician accused of cultivating an inappropriate relationship with a patient. The board recently charged Tamburro with unprofessional conduct in violation of Iowa Administrative Code 481-655.5 (4), which speaks to "sexual conduct" and prohibits "contact, touching, or comments of a sexual nature with a patient." The board received an unspecified number of complaints last year that alleged Tamburro had engaged in "an inappropriate relationship with a patient while in his residency." After he first saw the patient at a MercyOne clinic in Mason City on June 2, 2025, and texted her about her test results, the interaction then "progressed to texting about other issues" and to "meeting with the patient outside of the clinic." Tamburro was subsequently investigated by MercyOne and fired for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a patient. Tamburro recently consented to a settlement agreement under which he agreed to be cited for unprofessional conduct and to accept a warning that engaging in such conduct in the future could result in disciplinary action against his license. State records indicate Tamburro was first issued an Iowa medical resident license on July 3, 2023. According to Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services records, he is presently a licensed physician in that state with no record of any disciplinary action.
