NAMSS Expands Government Relations Liaison Framework
By Molly Ford, MPP
To help fulfil several objectives within its 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, NAMSS recently reconfigured its government relations liaison framework into three distinct categories: Strategic Partnership Engagement, MSPs and Practitioner Quality, and Professional Transformational Initiatives. NAMSS volunteer liaisons will lead each of these efforts with the support of NAMSS government relations staff.
Strategic Partnership Engagement
Led by Past Presidents Michelle Stultz, RN, CPMSM, CPCS, FMSP, and Diane Meldi, MBA, CPCS, CPMSM, FMSP, the NAMSS Strategic Partnership Engagement team is charged with developing a plan to establish new and strengthen existing industry partnerships. This effort also includes identifying opportunities for NAMSS to participate in or attend strategic partner events (e.g., conferences, roundtables, policy workshops) to provide the MSP voice in industry discussions.
The objective expertise that NAMSS provides to industry initiatives seeking to improve healthcare delivery has helped make NAMSS a sought-after authority on medical staff systems and beyond. Many industry initiatives that NAMSS has led, or contributed to, have resulted in standardized credentialing best practices, streamlined medical staff processes, and improvements in practitioner quality processes. NAMSS' Ideal Credentialing Standards, the NAMSS-American Telemedicne Association Credentialing-by-Proxy Guidebook, and the Verification of Graduate Medical Education Training/VGMET Form are a sampling of resources that NAMSS has generated with the partners.
Over the next four years, NAMSS Strategic Partner liaisons will formalize NAMSS’ policy for engaging strategic partners, identify opportunities to engage with current and potential industry partners, increase NAMSS’ presence at industry partner events, and identify participants for future NAMSS roundtables. Look for more updates from Michelle and Diane on NAMSS’ partners and throughout the year.
MSPs and Practitioner Quality
Led by Past President Kate Conklin, MS, CHC, CPHQ, CPMSM, CPCS, the MSP and Practitioner Quality team will organize the NAMSS 2025 roundtable, develop and maintain quality resources relevant to MSPs, and help expand NAMSS’ role in improving practitioner quality processes across healthcare organizations. The MSP and Practitioner Quality team will continue NAMSS’ ongoing work in assessing continuous monitoring processes. Kate and the quality team will keep NAMSS members updated throughout the year on these initiatives.
Professional Transformation Initiatives
Under the direction of Delicia Dimberg, MEd-OM, BHA, CPCS, the NAMSS Professional Transformation Initiatives team will spearhead strategy for initiatives to increase MSPs’ professional recognition, grow and further integrate NAMSS PASS, and take on emerging issues and opportunities that NAMSS leaders and members identify.
The Professional Transformation Initiatives team will promote MSP recognition by spearheading data collection for NAMSS’ Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) effort identified by the NAMSS SOC Task Force, oversee NAMSS PASS growth strategy, and assist with new projects in accordance with the NAMSS strategic plan, strategic partner opportunities, and MSP feedback.
NAMSS wishes to thank Michelle, Diane, Kate, and Delicia for their commitment to advancing NAMSS and the MSP profession and looks forward to keeping members updated on all their great work.
