MSPs Aim High During NAMSS Education Month

Those in the medical services profession demonstrate their dedication to keeping patients safe in their work every day. They exhibit courage and ambition by always searching for ways to develop and grow in their careers and gain new certifications. Additionally, they regularly seek opportunities to improve so they can educate physicians on the importance of their role.
NAMSS proudly offers MSPs year-round opportunities to invest in their knowledge and gain new credentials. Every year, NAMSS instructors and staff look forward to NAMSS Education Month, a month filled with courses for MSPs designed to help participants develop essential core competencies and grow their skillsets to continue advancing in the profession. These courses also assess an MSP’s knowledge of exam content and help them identify areas where they may need additional study before they take an exam.
This year, NAMSS offered three virtual credentialing courses: CPCS® Prep, CPMSM® Prep, and Credentialing 101. The courses were taught by practicing MSPs who had first-hand experience dealing with the current challenges facing the profession. They could also pull from experiences from their daily work to teach best practices and share how they overcame challenges in their roles.
This year, Education Month was a huge success, with each course boasting avid participation:
- CPCS® Prep – 56 participants
- CPMSM® Prep – 16 participants
- Credentialing 101 – 79 participants
Additionally, over 50 education items were purchased in the NAMSS Education Zone.
Chris Hinton, chair of the PDC and immediate NAMSS past president, provided her thoughts on the success of this year’s Education Month. “It’s inspiring to see the excitement around the variety of courses offered during NAMSS Education Month. I’m proud to be a part of an organization that prioritizes and invests in education and growth opportunities for MSPs. I love seeing MSPs take the initiative to advance their careers and gain credentials that will equip them with the skills and knowledge to handle the demands of this profession with confidence. And, I was so pleased to see such strong participation: 151 MSPs took advantage of our first virtual course offerings of the year. I’m looking forward to another great year of NAMSS education provided by the best MSPs in the business.”
No matter where one is in their life and career, exams are always a challenge. NAMSS designed each course to give participants an idea of their preparedness for their exams. By taking these courses, they learned what areas of learning they needed to dedicate the most time and energy to. “This course helped me determine where I need to focus my study time,” said one CPMSM® attendee.
The education also brought to light the importance of being aware of standards outside of an individual’s company. “The instructors reminded me to get out of what my company does and look at the broad picture in relation to the standards,” another attendee said. “The ability to resist tunnel vision and think critically is essential to all MSPs, and participants were able to learn how to grow these skills during the courses. The courses were also described as “informative and easy to understand.”
