Healthcare Real Estate Report Confirms Trend Toward Outpatient Care

A new study conducted by Colliers at the 2026 Revista Medical Real Estate Investment Forum held last month in Palos Verdes, California, confirmed hospitals are increasingly focusing on care outside the four walls of the facility. The research showed that occupancy in outpatient healthcare real estate is extremely strong, exceeding 92% in many major markets. The Colliers researchers also found that a flexible ambulatory strategy has become increasingly critical as more health systems are prioritizing adaptable building design to support multi-specialty consolidation. Others, meanwhile, are also balancing continued outpatient expansion with necessary inpatient modernization.
