Editor’s Message: NAMSS Gateway Content Continues to Grow
By Alison Webster, MBA, CPCS, CPMSM, CPHQ, FMSP
Have you ever thought about contributing an article to Gateway? It’s a great way to share your expertise, add to your resume, and earn NAMSS CEs.
As the NAMSS President-Elect, I have the distinct honor of serving as the editor-in-chief and chair of the NAMSS Publications Committee. NAMSS launched the new Publications Committee this year, and it is off to a great start. Members include myself; Jennifer Dorais, MHA, CPMSM, CPCS; Barbara Prats, CPMSM, CPCS; Teresa Saulnier, CPCS, CPMSM; Arianne Smith; and Karen Vineyard, CPMSM, CPCS. We meet monthly to brainstorm ideas and come up with new and innovative content. Throughout the month, we peer review articles and seek to engage authors to encourage diverse content that is helpful to our readers. We would love to hear from members and other interested parties who wish to contribute.
The first NAMSS publication, Overview, was born in 1973 and went on to become Synergy, an informative, glossy magazine, loaded with helpful content that was mailed out to members quarterly. I recall as a much younger MSP how I looked forward to receiving Synergy in the mail. I gained so much knowledge and education through reading Synergy, learned about NAMSS leaders, and enjoyed everything that was the latest and greatest in the medical services profession. As my own MSP journey evolved, I later went on to write several articles that were published in Synergy. Back then I couldn’t have imagined I would one day be the editor-in-chief.
In more recent years, the online electronic publication, Gateway, has evolved into the current method of article content delivery, which also includes the Tomorrow’s MSP® Podcast series. Each month, Gateway puts out six articles, two of which are exclusive to members-only, in addition to industry articles.
This year already, we’ve published many great articles from a wide range of authors and topics relevant to our NAMSS audiences. So far, our topics have ranged from credentialing shakeups to interviews with NAMSS Past Presidents and Honorary Members. I’d love to highlight each and every article, but instead I encourage you to review these on the NAMSS website, details of which can be found in the last paragraph.
Each month we try to highlight awareness of a special interest that is taking place that month. April was Celebrate Diversity Month, and Claudia Elmore, CPCS, CPMSM, vice chair, NAMSS DEI Committee, authored an article entitled “Diversity: The Untapped Power Fueling Innovation and Growth”. She laid out a great message about moving from recognition to activation. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Dr. Stuart Anfang, vice chair of psychiatry at Baystate Health, recorded a short video to share three tips for prioritizing stress and work-life balance. I encourage you to listen to the three tips. I will share that this particularly resonated with me, knowing that I need to do better on at least one of his tips!
I also wanted to highlight our recent podcast with guests from ECFMG, a division of Intealth, Liz Ingraham and Matt Shick, JD, on the topic “Additional Pathways to State Licensure for International Medical Graduates”. As more states move to enact legislation allowing internationally trained physicians (ITPs), to become licensed in the U.S. without undergoing ACGME training, this is a relevant topic for MSPs and Provider Enrollment Professionals to be aware of.
In addition to the Gateway notifications pushed out by email, the latest Gateway articles can be found on the home page of the NAMSS website. By clicking on the “Read More” tab, this opens to the Gateway portal that includes past articles that can be located in the dropdown headings: MSP Skillsets (Provider Enrollment, Credentialing/Privileging, Professional Practice Evaluation, Regulatory Requirements, Leadership); Podcast; Members-Only; Industry News; and About. You can also do a keyword search for topics. Additionally, you can also follow us on LinkedIn to receive updates on the latest news, articles, and events. Did you know: NAMSS is now on Instagram! If you are on Instagram, give NAMSS a follow and stay tuned for how Gateway and the Tomorrow’s MSP® Podcast will be highlighted on this platform.
If you are interested in submitting an article or want to learn more, all of the information can be found on the About tab of Gateway. You can also reach out to any one of us on the Publications Committee. On behalf of the Publications Committee, thank you to all the great authors past, present, and future. Let’s keep the NAMSS Gateway content growing!
