Female physicians working full time earn about $0.78 on the dollar in total compensation compared to their male peers, and $0.80 on the dollar in terms of base salary — a pay gap that is substantially wider than the gender pay gap observed elsewhere in the United States labor market. The numbers are based on anonymous salary data shared by verified physicians on Marit Health, a salary transparency platform for physicians and advanced practice providers (or APPs). The analysis includes more than 10,800 anonymous salary submissions shared last month for doctors working full-time. Role and employer-specific factors cannot explain the entire pay gap between male and female physicians, the researchers noted.
